Clinical psychologist

Rose Silvester

I work with both adults and young people (often alongside their families) and use approaches that are practical, evidence-based, and tailored to each person.

Kia ora, I’m Rose. I’m a clinical psychologist registered with the New Zealand Psychologists Board and a Fellow of the New Zealand College of Clinical Psychologists. I trained at Otago University and have been working, mainly in specialist mental health services, since the mid-1990s.
I work with both adults and young people (often alongside their families) and use approaches that are practical, evidence-based, and tailored to each person. Some of the main therapies I draw on are Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT). I often start with ACT, as it helps people focus on what really matters to them and find ways to move forward, even in the middle of pain or difficulty.
Over the years, I’ve supported people with a wide range of challenges. My particular areas of interest include anxiety, depression, psychosis, maternal mental health, emotion regulation, complex trauma, self-injury, and adjusting to chronic health conditions. I have a special focus on ME/CFS and autonomic nervous system conditions.
At the heart of my work is helping people build lives that feel meaningful and connected — whatever struggles they may be facing.
